Martin Alvarado with Mikko Helenius

Synopsis

Martin and Mikko have been performing together for over 20 years and have enjoyed a very symbiotic musical relationship in that time which draws of both artists’ immense capability for improvisation. No two concerts featuring them are ever the same!

They have an intense and intuitive double-act chemistry on stage which lead audiences on an emotional journey – from laughter to tears – as they deliver a repertoire that covers rare Piazzolla songs, tango and south American classics, Finnish tangos (sung in both Finnish and Spanish by Martin) and self-penned ballads.

Mikko, a renowned musician, composer and choral director in his native Finland, plays both piano and bandoneon – sometimes, remarkably, at the same time (see video below) – often switching between one instrument and the other mid-song while Martin keeps the melody and vocals flowing on acoustic guitar.

The performance is an artistic and exceptional tango music experience like no other and one which stays with audiences long after the final bow.

The line-up and repertoire can be expanded to include a string ensemble or full orchestration.

“The world needs to experience this extreme form of aural pleasure… totally mesmerising, a tango epiphany.”
Max Reinhardt, BBC Radio

“Indisputably one of the world’s finest vocalists
